About Me Transcript

Hi, I’m Teresa! I’m so excited that you’re here, experiencing this beautiful comeback with me. The Beautiful Comeback has been the story of my life as I’ve have to restart, rebuild, reboot so many times. I was born to a mother who had a mental disability and was unable to keep me. I ended up in the foster care system and at the tender age of 6 I was adopted along with my sibilings. The adoption was a nightmare as we were severly abused and eventuallly removed from the home and placed back into the foster care system. I we though 15 different foster homes and various situaitons happened that landed me out on my own at 15. When I was 16 years old, I had sex for the very first time and ended up pregnant.

Managing a child and school was too much so I dropped out. By the time I was 19 years old I was a high school dropout with 2 children, but God was not finished with my story. I had a sister who somehow, regardless of all we had been through, picked herself up by the bootstraps and went to college. She called me just about everyday and asked me, “are you back in school yet?” When I would reply, “no,” she would say, “girl you gotta go back to school.” Life took it’s course and I ended up needed to stay with her for a while. She agreed, but under one condition, I had to go back to school and get my G.E.D. So I did. Thanks to my sister, I went back and got it.

After, getting my G.E.D. a whole new world of opportunities opened up for me. I was able to go through the law enforcement academy and become FDLE certified. Once certified I was able to land a job that upgraded my lifestyle and allowed me to buy my 1st home. At the age of 23, I met the man that I would marry. During the marriage, I gave birth to my 3rd son, but the marriage ended in divorce. I found myself lost and wondering how I could make a comeback. I had to learn how to be on my own again. That’s when I decided to enroll in college. I worked midnights, sent to kids to school, and went to school myself during the day. Many times I was operating on 2-3 hours of sleep before I had to repeat the proccess over again. Work, kiddos, school. Eventually, I graduated from Pensacola Junior College with my A.A. degree in English Literature.

I knew that I wanted to go further with my education so I enrolled at The University of West Florida where I continued my studies in  Literary arts. At this point, managing the kiddos, going to school, and working had taken its toll. I knew I could survivie on my grants from school, but money would be real tight. I ended up resigning from job to continue my education and be a more attentive parent, but money was really tight.

One Friday, I had made it home from school, but I had no gas left in my car. I knew that I could survive the weekend as I was expecting a deposit the following Monday. Boy, was I wrong. That Friday evening, I had developed a fever, by Saturday morning, I was having cold sweats, sneezing, coughing, and had literally come down with the flu. However, I had no gas in my car and no pain relievers in my home.

I prayed and asked God to please show me how to earn money, I mean real money, as the only way I knew how to do it was to work a job that boxed me into the same amount every two weeks. If flipped on the television and began watching my favorite show, House Hunters. There was a man on the show who was buying a house for 1.2 million dollars. I remember thinking, “whatever it is that he does is what I want to learn how to do.” The man had revealed that he was an internet marketing and earned his money through automatic sales funnels on the internet. I thought “wow, what’s that all about.” I grabbed my laptop and Googled Internet Marketing. I strolled a bit, but then ran accrosss the YouTube channel of a girl named Nicole S. Cooper.

I had no idea that my life was about to change forever! Here was this preganant woman who was battling depression, family issues, and all kinds of things, but had decided not to let that alter her ability to pick herself up by the bootstraps and build her business on the internet. She was so transparent in sharing her journey and among all of the things she was dealing with, she had discovered how to make money online. I needed $25 to join her team, and I didn’t have it. The deposit I was getting the following Monday was going to my house payment, gas, groceries, and utlities, but then I remembered. . . I normally would take the kids to Sonic’s for icecream and then to the park. That’s where I would get the $25. I would skip that trip to Sonic’s and invest my money into learning internet marketing.

Nicole taught me everything I know. The 1st thing she made clear to me was that she wasn’t going to baby me or hold my hand. I would have to show up to the trainings, I would have to do the work, I would research the things I needed to know more about, and I would have to invest in the courses that I needed to continue my own success. Somehow, I was able to get through the entire program of courses, even having to invest over 1/2 of income tax check one year to get the information that I needed to get the skillset that I have today. Building my onine business became my all consuming obsession, because I knew that learning how to earn money on the internet meant freedom for my life.

It didn’t happen right away, I left school to focus on the my craft even more, but it just wasn’t clicking for me as fast as it did for other people. Nicole had said that “sometimes, you’re trying to hold on to an old life, hoping that things will work out before you lose everything, but there is freedom in letting things go, and starting over.” She talked about how in the early stages of building her business, she had to downsize and that her and her family sold everything they owned to cut cost and invest in growing their business. I gave me the courage to do the same thing. I had to start over and over again until I finally got it.

I had learned to build sales funnels that got me paid. Overtime, it just got easier and easier, the sound of my phone dinging, that I had just got a sale half way accross the world was just amazing to me. Later, I had a situation with my oldest son, that caused me to have to cash out my entire savings to fight legal battles and again, I found myself starting over. The stress of the situation had taken away any creative desire I had. I also had to use my entire marketing budget on legal fees so I lost a lot of money.

Long story short, I ended up having to relocate to a different state, and share a two bedroom with a friend of mines. The 1st thing I asked her was if it was okay for me to upgrade the internet because that and my laptop was all I needed to get $$$ back in my pocket. Here are the steps that I took to get back on my feet.

  1.  Prayer, I had to pray for God to give me back the desire to create. I swear, I was so tired of starting over!!! I just didn’t think I had it in me to do it again.
  2. Motivation, I started to fall asleep listening to Jim Rhon, Les Brown, Lisa Nichols, and Tony Robbins.
  3. Got Physical, I couldn’t believe that I was back at square 1, devastation and depression was trying to bring be down, but I didn’t let it. I asked my roomate if it would be okay if I got a little spin bike to put in my room. I would jump on that thing, and pretend that I was riding to whole new place in my life. The music, the exercise, the sweat, and the movment just got my blood pumping and helped me to feel alive again because I had become numb because of everything that had happpend.
  4. Got a job, I got an online job because having a dream is one thing, but paying them bills is another. I had a few dollars to my name, but knew I needed that for my living expenses. I needed money to invest in building my online business again. I needed hosting services, email marking software, a marketing budget, image creaters, and so much more. I needed money coming in, plus having that stable income while building my biz was way less stressful then trying to hurry up and make stuff happen. I got involved with companies that allowed me to make my own shedule and manage my own hours, so I would work like crazy Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs, then work on biz Fri, Sat, and Sunday.
  5. Went Back to School: Ya’ll can sleep on school if you want to, but there are all kinds of grants out there for continuing your education. I applied for every single grant that I qualified for. I didn’t go back to my literature degree because I need everthing to be online, but I was able to find business management with an empahsis on marketing program, so I focused on that. I graduated with my bachelors then turned around and got my MBA.

Being resourceful really helped me in my beautiful comeback story. I’ve had to bounce back from so many things and just when I thought it was all over, I found out that through all the birth control measures, I’m having my 4th son at 42 years old. I’m just thankful that I’m not that same scared, broken, poverty stricken little girl that I use to be. Even though this pregranancy was unexpected, I’m looking forward to all it has to bring because I have a mindset and a skillset that has put me into a position to be more than ready for this child.
